The impact of multi-session testing on panelist engagement measured by the engagement Questionnaire (EQ)

Consumer engagement during sensory testing can be influenced by multiple factors. This study sought to determine the impact multi-session and consumer has on panelist engagement. To measure engagement, Engagement Questionnaire (EQ) was included in a three-week repeated session test. Participants evaluated 11 different whole wheat breads over course of three weeks. At end each subjects completed ten-item EQ. Of factor scores, panelists reported high levels both active involvement affective value weeks one two, but score dropped significantly after third session. Purposeful intent remained throughout entire series indicating participants dedicated evaluation even though they no longer enjoyed it. Overall, EQ exposed dramatic shift multi-day series. valuable insight should considered as possible negative consequence for future evaluations consisting or more sessions.
